A product demo with camera and script

A demo should show the user’s path to a result. A feature list alone does not explain what problem the product solves.

Demonstrate one useful outcome

A product demo is clearer when it answers “How do I solve this problem?” rather than listing every control. Choose one user journey: find a report, prepare a document, or send a result. Show the intended outcome first, then the route to it. Viewers can then understand why the sequence matters.

Avoid opening with a long menu tour. A feature unrelated to the selected task can have another video. Prepare demonstration data and the starting state beforehand so the recording does not become a search for a suitable example. Keep the scenario realistic without exposing private account information.

A demo script plan

BlockContentAvoid
ProblemWhat the user wantsBroad promises without an example
ActionA short sequenceTouring every setting
ResultWhat changed on screenEnding immediately after a click
Next stepHow to try itSeveral competing requests

After an important action, name the change. Instead of only saying “click Save,” explain that the document now appears in the list and can be opened. This connects action and outcome and gives viewers a way to verify their own attempt.

A sample opening

I’ll show you how to create a report for one project. We will finish with a table you can share with the team.

Select the project and reporting period. We do not need the other settings for this task.

Here is the result. Before sending it, check the dates and project name.

The script does not need to recite every interface label. It explains what the actions accomplish. If waiting is unavoidable, prepare a short pause instead of filling it with unrelated words. Do not accelerate the demonstration so much that the process becomes impossible to follow.

Record camera and screen

In Takt, share the product window, choose a composition, and move the script near the lens. Inspect the circular camera position in every important state. A menu or notification may open exactly where your face appears. Check transitions rather than assuming the initial frame represents the complete journey.

Move the pointer deliberately and let it rest near the object you name. Introduce the action, perform it, and allow the result to remain visible. Completing three clicks before explaining them makes it harder for beginners to match narration to the screen. Your trial should contain the real sequence rather than a stationary homepage.

Keep the demo accurate

Show capabilities that are actually available. Label a mockup or prepared example as such, and do not present planned functionality as a current feature. Explain the conditions behind numerical results: sample data is not a customer case study or a measurement of effectiveness.

How is a demo different from a lesson?

A demo helps someone decide whether a product fits a task. A lesson teaches independent execution and usually needs more explanation and verification. One short recording does not need to sell every capability and teach every detail at the same time. Choose its primary job before writing the script.
