The extension does not describe quality
WebM and MP4 are containers for video and audio. In practice, you need to know whether the file imports into your editor or publishing destination, not merely which extension it has. A good-looking studio preview does not establish compatibility with the next step. Test a short file before making a long recording.
Takt chooses among formats reported as supported by the browser. Do not expect one container on every device. The browser’s format-support check is not a guarantee of successful recording under every resource condition. MediaRecorder support checking
An export checklist
| Property | Where to check | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Extension | Filename | Identifies the apparent container |
| Playback | An ordinary player | Confirms a usable result |
| Import | Your target editor | Validates the next step |
| Audio | Listening to the file | Reveals a missing source |
| Frame | Beginning, middle, ending | Reveals cropping or a frozen image |
A player opening the file does not prove that a publishing service accepts it without processing. Import a trial into the actual destination. For a lesson that may be a learning platform; for a short social video it may be the platform’s editor. Keep the successful sample as a reference for future sessions.
Why renaming is not conversion
Changing “.webm” to “.mp4” in the filename does not change the internal data. A receiving program may still identify the original container or report an error. Real conversion requires an editor or converter export. Preserve the source separately so experiments do not remove the usable original.
Avoid several successive conversions without a reason. Determine the final destination’s requirements first, then produce one suitable version. If you are sending the file to an editor, ask whether the original format is accepted; conversion may be unnecessary. The shortest workflow is the one that reaches a usable result without redundant processing.
Resolution and framing are separate questions
Current Takt composes a 1280 × 720 output. Selecting MP4 does not make it 4K, and a large source monitor does not imply equivalent detail in the recording. Enlarge small on-screen text before capture or separate the material into several readable frames.
A composition can scale or crop parts of the image. Inspect edge labels, the face, and captions. If you intend to edit vertically later, consider whether the important subject fits that area. A horizontal recording of a dense table rarely becomes a useful vertical clip simply by changing its aspect ratio.
If the file will not open
Check that the download completed and inspect its size. Try another player or the target editor while retaining the original. If the issue repeats with a short trial, resolve the route from camera to imported file before the main recording. Continuing with a longer take does not establish compatibility.
Can I manually force MP4 in Takt?
The version described here selects a supported format automatically. Do not assume a universal container switch. If a particular format is mandatory, test the intended browser beforehand and include a separate conversion step only if needed.
